SHARI’S BIO (well, sorta)

Three years ago I needed to take just one random class in order to maintain full-time status at Columbus State Community College.  So I decided that since I had just purchased a used Pentax K100d and had absolutely no idea what all of those numbers, symbols, dials and buttons were used for that I decided to take a digital photography class.  That’s when I was swooned by, consumed with and in love with photography.  I decided to change my degree from Interpreting American Sign Language to Digital Photography.  From that day on, there has not been one day of my life that does not include photography. On my way to my day job as a cosmetologist I spot a cool location. I  notice the way the light is falling and how a location can be a totally different place in the daylight vs. dusk.  I am consumed by locations.  My mind is always filled with more knowledge while my passion grows deeper.  I’m so greedy when it comes to photography because I always want more.  The more information I obtain, the more questions I have and the more questions that I have leads me to a whole new avenue of the art, the location, the light, the emotion, and while searching for answers  to these new-found questions, I always find at least 1 bit of information to add to my information bank.

I love to shoot high school seniors and brides…why?  Because they WANT to have their photo taken. I mean, what 2 events in your life have you been practicing your smile, and your pose, for years!  What 2 (two) events take months of finding the perfect outfit?  What are the images that are posted in your grandmother’s and mother’s homes?  You know it’s coming and you WANT your time in front of that camera!   You can not wait to hand out your senior wallets to all of your friends.  Your heart skips a beat when you think about how you’re going to look in that beautiful white gown.  Or a funky red gown if the traditional white just isn’t your style. We’re soooo cool with that!  You know that you want a photo of that image to show your daughter, your daughter and even your great-granddaughter.Trying to photograph a subject who would rather be strung up by his/her fingernails than to get their photo taken vs someone who wants to love that camera as much as we love our cameras makes all the difference in the end result.  Don’t believe me?  I have the pictures to prove it!! ;)

One of the area’s of improvement that I really need to give some attention to is my blog entries.  This is one of the reason’s that I’ve moved to “WordPress.” Oh, and I also stink at tweeting.  I am a total facebookaholic.  Maybe I should start my own support group for that! ;)

I’ve recently discovered, boxing. I fuhreakin love it!!  Who would have ever thought that I would be lovin exercise!? HAHA!  I highly recommend Title Boxing Club in Columbus, Ohio.  It is amazing!

My favorite thing to read is books on photography, and true crime novels but one of the best fiction books that I’ve read is “Angry Housewives Eating Bon-Bon’s.”  So many parts in that book made me laugh, out loud.

My favorite band is Fleetwood Mac.   I met the cool “older” woman who lived next door.  There were some funny smells that came from  her apartment along with some pretty cool music .  Once day she invited me in for coffee, it was my first taste of coffee but I wanted to impress her for some reason so I pretended really hard to LOVE her coffee.  Then she played the most beautiful music that I had ever heard.  It had much more soul than the Go-Go’s. It had truth, it had grit and it had me.

I love God.  I love my mom.  I love my kids.  I love my grandbabies. I love my friends.  I love my partner.

I love and long for photography.

My partner has been forced against her will to accompany me to many photo shoots.  Now, she’s my second shooter.  She’s still learning but she does amazing work when she doesn’t let the camera or my bossy mouth intimidate her! ;)
